A mala is a string of beads used during prayer and meditation. Traditionally, there are 108 beads on a mala, which is an auspicious, special figure in Tibetan Buddhism. The beads are used as an aid to count and maintain focus during the recitation of mantras, breaths or whatever one may be practicing. Besides its practical usage every mala is also a lovely visual reminder of one’s Buddhist path and can be worn as precious spiritual jewellery too.
